News Media: Immense Contribution
The term Â"mediaÂ" has come to represent one of the most powerful forces of the 21st century. The media has the power of information which is very great indeed. It also comes in various forms and types. The news media is one such type of media, and is a major part of this information power-wielding field, with a lot of influence.
So what exactly is the news media? This particular section of media typically focuses on presenting the most current news to the audience. The media involved in this include print, broadcast, and Internet based media. The concept of the news media is seen as a separate business from the profession of journalism. But, it is also said to be integrally connected to the same.
Some of the different variations of the news media include the following:
Broadcasting: this pertains to the distribution of both audio and video programs to many recipients who belong to a large group. This group can be either the general public or a large group within the masses.
News magazines: a news magazine, as the name suggests, is a magazine which features articles on the current events. These articles are usually more in-depth than the ones found in the newspapers. This is to give the reader a better understanding of the details of the circumstances surrounding the main event itself, along with the basic facts.
Newspapers: this is a lightweight and disposable publication, and is usually printed on a low cost paper, the newsprint. Its contents can be either general or specialized, and can be published daily, weekly, monthly, etc. General interest newspapers usually carry articles on the current news on a variety of topics.
Newsreels: this is basically a documentary film, regularly released in a place for public presentation, and contains filmed news stories.
Online journalism: this pertains to the reporting and journalism, published or distributed over the Internet. Several news organizations based in other media also distribute their news online. Online journalism has also been the source of the spread of independent online media. It has also leveled the playing field with even smaller news organizations publishing online, and reaching out to an audience as broad as that of their larger counterparts.
The reach of the news media is quite great indeed. By covering all forms of relevant information and news on every topic conceivable, the news media also has a great impact over the society and its dominant, social, cultural, and political image.
Beyond all the major news networks, the advances made in technology has also leveled the playing field for the independent news sources. These news sources not only dispense information on the main stories, but also pick up and produce events which may have escaped attention. The news media has contributed a great deal indeed in both dispensing relevant information and also in shaping societies.
